How to use phrase lists effectively

Create phrase lists for specific situations

  • Got kids? Build a "School mornings" phrase list with phrases like "Wyt ti wedi bwyta?" (Have you eaten?) and "Ble mae dy fag ysgol?" (Where is your school bag?)

  • Going on holiday? Create a "Welsh travel" list with "Ble mae'r orsaf drenau?" (Where is the train station?) and booking phrases

  • Working in Wales? Build a "Welsh workplace" list for meetings and professional conversations

  • Focus on 10-15 phrases per situation to keep lists manageable

Target difficult words with focused phrase lists

  • Struggling with "dylai" (should)? Create a phrase list full of "should" phrases like "Dylai ti fynd" (You should go)

  • Can't grasp "mae'n rhaid" (must/have to)? Build a list: "Mae'n rhaid i mi fynd" (I must go), "Mae'n rhaid iddo weithio" (He has to work)

  • Having trouble with mutations? Create lists grouping similar mutation patterns

  • Use 8-12 phrases per word to see it in different contexts

Make phrase lists work for your life

  • Think about your daily routine - what do you actually say?

  • Create lists for your hobbies: "Welsh football phrases" or "Welsh cooking terms"

  • Build emergency phrase lists for situations you dread in Welsh

  • Add personal notes about when and how you'd use each phrase
